Dont want wrinkle anybodys eyebrows too much. So to clear up my word from earlier 'shan' ... there are various meanings and interpretations of this word. I would recommend to use the urban dictionary as oppose to any single definition only as in wikti something book. Even from only that it depends what region or wheteabouts you are from . Usually only said then to mate . Most people from my area Manchester use it as mate you dont have to say anything as you are a mate anyway. Thankyou. H.

I actually found this pretty interesting. Thanks for the brief lesson in terminology of your local area. Would it be correct to call this a slang word?

Yes mate BHunter it is a local term.lingo i guess you call it slang too. It can mean different things i hear in different areas . For example in asia it means ' five'. If you get chance look at urban dictionary for best meanings of it. Thanks for your post!
